VALENTINE'S DAY!

Plaza Fiesta celebrated Love, Family and Friendship on Sunday February 12th, 2012

Our delightful host, Tony Guerrero, entertained the kids with amusing contests, sweets and presents.  There were prizes for the couple who proved to know their spouses the best as well as for the brave husbands who sang love songs to their wives along with Plaza Fiesta’s Mariachi.

And don’t think we left out the singles, Tony served as matchmaker and helped 2 single guys and 2 gals find their better half at Plaza Fiesta’s stage.

Plaza Fiesta wants to wish you and your love ones a Happy Valentine’s Day and to thank you for being part of another successful event at “el rinconcito de nuestro pueblo.”

Celebración a la Virgen de Guadalupe

According to Roman Catholic tradition, on December 9, 1531, Juan Diego had a vision of a young woman while he was on a hill in the Tepeyac desert, near Mexico City. The lady asked him to build a church exactly on the spot where they were standing. He told the local Bishop who asked for proof in exchange.

Juan Diego went back later and saw the lady again. He told her that the bishop wanted proof, and she instructed Juan Diego to go to the mountain top, where he found Castillan roses, which were native to Bishop’s Juan de Zumarraga's hometown and could not possibly bloom during wintertime. Juan Diego cut the roses, placed them in his apron-like tilma and returned to the bishop; an imprint of the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared on the tilma from the residue of the soil and roses.

On December 12, 2011 Plaza Fiesta was the location for a small mass in held by father Javier from Saint Joseph's Church in Marrietta as well as a play demonstration of the events that unfolded more than 480 years ago. Afterwards people had their images and babies blessed by father Javier.

Las Posadas is a nine-day celebration beginning December 16th and ending December 24th.

Posada is Spanish for "lodging", or "accommodation"; it is said in plural because it is celebrated for nine days.
